Wedding Dress Journey Timeline

Wedding Dress Journey Timeline

If you’re freshly engaged, we’re sure that you’re excited about finding your dream wedding dress! However, our team at For the Bride Boutique in Fort Myers knows that finding the dream dress can be a tad overwhelming for some people, especially when you don’t know when to start looking. If you’re one of those people, never fear! We’re here to tell you everything you need to know about finding the perfect wedding dress and what your timeline should look like.

We recommend that our brides-to-be begin shopping for their wedding gown as soon as they decide on their venue and wedding date. Since wedding gowns usually take up to six months to arrive, planning ahead will help you avoid worrying about rush fees. Begin shopping a year in advance at least!

This is also the time to set a budget for your wedding dress! Taxes, shipping, and alterations should be considered when crunching the numbers. Include any accessories you may need in your budgets, such as shoes or jewelry!

When you have decided on a wedding date and a budget, your next step will be to research the styles of wedding dresses you are interested in. Is your dream dress more bohemian or luxurious? Are you thinking pure white or warm white, or even an entirely different color if you’re not a traditional bride? You can browse Pinterest boards online or even create a vision board if you feel creative!

You should choose your shopping partners before you actually enter the store to find your wedding dress. Bring at least 1-3 friends or family members whose opinions you value most. Choosing people who aren't going to cause you stress is the best way to make your group smaller; after all, this experience is supposed to be fun!

Once you've found your dream wedding dress, it's time to choose your shoes and accessories. Select both of these at the same time to ensure everything matches. When you’re five months away from your wedding, it’s a good time to shop for undergarments and bras or shapewear you might need.

Some dresses can need up to three fittings. You should ideally have your first fitting three months prior to the wedding date and the second would be 6-8 weeks out; if a third is needed, wait until 2-3 weeks prior to the wedding. Once it’s properly fitted and you’ve got all your undergarments and accessories, you’re ready!
